1. Growth Phase (Anagenic Phase)

This is the phase of active hair growth. It lasts around 2 to 8 years. In this period hair growth is sustained by the absorption of nutrients from the capillaries supplying the scalp and root. This phase is very active and flows smoothly if the root is provided with sufficient nutrients.

In the healthy hair growth cycle, 80% to 90% of the hairs are in the growth phase.

2. Transitional Phase (Catagenic Phase)

The transitional phase signals the end of the active growth of a hair follicle. During a period of around 2 weeks, the hair root cells temporarily stop hair production, and the root shrinks. 

Between 1% and 3% of hairs are in the transitional phase.

3. Resting Phase (Telogenic Phase)

During the resting phase, the hair remains in the root for up to 3 months. It then falls out due to washing, combing, or hair re-growth, for example.
